Sue Gilmour

Hi, I'm Sue. This season marks my 30th year coaching youth sport.

After playing competitive basketball for many years, coaching became the natural way for me to stay involved in the game I love.

Since then, I have coached players at every stage of development, from 4-year-olds picking up a basketball for the first time through to serving as an assistant coach with a women’s college team that won a bronze medal at the CCAA Canadian College National Championships.

Before moving to England in 2020, I was Head Coach of the Varsity Girls basketball team at the high school where I taught, building a programme that was consistently ranked among the top 10.

I now teach PE four days a week at Wymondham High Academy, where I also run the school’s basketball programme, which competes locally in the Junior NBA programmes.

My real passion, however, is player development. I love working with young players to build strong fundamentals, confidence and a solid technical base that will support them throughout many years of competitive basketball.

For me, success at younger ages is not simplay about winning games, but about helping players develop the skills, habits and love of the sport that will allow them to keep progressing.

This season, I will be Head Coach of our under-12s and under-14s programmes, while also working with the under-16s team.

Basketball is more than just a passion for me; it is very much a family affair. Since joining BBITC in the spring of 2023, I knew immediately that it was the right fit for both me and my two boys.
